What you need to know about car tyres.
• Car Tyres must be compatible with others on the car and generally in good physical condition.
• Car Tyres must be correctly inflated to the vehicle manufacturer’s recommended pressure.
• Tread depth must be above the legal minimum which for passenger cars is 1.6mm throughout a continuous band in the centre 3/4 of the tread and around the entire circumference.
At City Tyres Centre all car tyres are E-Marked and comply fully with all NCT requirements. It’s a requirement throughout the EU that motor vehicles have e- marked tyres.
E-marking applies to both new and retreaded car tyres. An e- mark confirms that the car tyre meets the minimum EU or International (UNECE) standard in relation to its dimensions, load and speed rating.
The e- mark consist of an ‘E’ or ‘e’ followed by a number included in a circle or rectangle.
From April 1st 2010, all car tyres must have an E-mark in order for cars to pass the NCT test. A check for e- marks on HGV tyres was introduced in March 2010.
At City tyres we make sure that all our scrap tyres are collected and disposed off by a licenced waste disposal company
While waste tyres are not classified as hazardous waste, they can cause environmental pollution if disposed of incorrectly or irresponsibly. An estimated 35,000 tonnes of waste tyres are generated in Ireland each year.
